Macedonia is the largest region of Greece with its centre set in Thessaloniki and offers its visitors a variety of choices of amusement, entertainment and relaxation. At the same time it is rich in natural and artistic treasures of unique value on a global level. An exceptional place is awarded for landscapes such the Lakes Prespes that form one of the most important wetlands in Europe, the waterfalls of Edessa, the lake Kerkini, the delta of Axios river, just out of Thessaloniki as well as the Nestos river.
Of great importance are the archeological sites of the region, with the most interesting those of Vergina, Philippoi and Dion, by the foots of Mount Olympus, the mountain of the gods. The winter sports fans will be completely satisfied by the excellent infrastructure and the skiing centers of the region await to welcome them in places such as Agios Athanasios, Vermio and elsewhere.
Equally important are the museums in the region, housing works of art of international interest, both in Thessaolniki and in the rest of the cities of Northern Greece. Important mention needs to be made for the treasures of Agion Oros in Chalkidiki.
Kastoria with its lake and the important museum of folk art, housed I the mansion of Nerantzi Aivantzi, Kavala with the castle and the old part of the city, Drama with the park and the short films Festival, Chalkidiki with the beaches and Agion Oros are only a few of the interesting sites for the visitor to find.
